Is Starbase Louisiana the same as the STARBASE Louisiana STEM program?
No. Starbase Louisiana in this context is the SpaceX Starship launch and production facility announced for Pecan Island, Vermilion Parish on August 25, 2026. STARBASE Louisiana is a separate, long-running Department of Defense youth STEM education program that happens to share the name. They are unrelated organizations.
Where is Starbase Louisiana?
Starbase Louisiana will be built on Pecan Island, a coastal chenier ridge in southern Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, reached mainly by Louisiana Highway 82. Abbeville is about an hour north; Lafayette Regional Airport is roughly two hours away. Approximate coordinates are 29.6444 N, 92.4448 W.

A launch site of this scale would normally require a federal environmental review. No review timeline has been published. Some Vermilion Parish residents have publicly raised concerns about the buildout's effect on the wetlands.
How big will Starbase Louisiana be?
SpaceX says it will be its largest launch facility, larger than the existing Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas. Exact acreage and parcel details have not been fully published.
