Where exactly is Starbase Louisiana? Pecan Island, Vermilion Parish explained

Pecan Island is not an island in the usual sense. It is a chenier — a low, oak-covered ridge sitting a few feet above the surrounding coastal marsh in southern Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. It is reached primarily by Louisiana Highway 82, the Hug-the-Coast Highway.

Rough travel context for visitors: - Abbeville, the nearest full-service town, is about an hour north by road. - Kaplan and Esther sit between Abbeville and the coast. - Lafayette Regional Airport (LFT) is the closest commercial airport, roughly two hours away. - Lake Charles and Baton Rouge are each a longer drive.

There is very little commercial lodging near the site itself. Most visitors will stay in Abbeville, Kaplan, or Lafayette.

Important: the launch site does not exist yet. There is nothing to see on the ground beyond marshland, and no public viewing area has been designated. Do not trespass on private or leased land.
